Assessment, Reporting and Results

Early Years and Foundation Stage

As they progress through their first year of school children are assessed against the Early Years curriculum and this is recording in their learning diaries. At the end of the year their achievement of the Early Learning Goals is reported to parents, the Local Authority and the DfE.

Phonics Screening Check

In Year 1, at the age of 6, the children’s progress in learning phonics is also checked by a national test. If children do not pass the phonics screening test at the end of year 1 they can retake it at the end of year 2. The results of the phonics test are reported to parents, the Local Authority and the DfE.

The assessment of reading, writing and maths in KS1 and KS2.

At Cotham Gardens Primary School teachers use two different ways to assess children’s learning.

On a daily basis, as part of their teaching, teachers use assessment for learning to find out what children have learnt during the lesson and to feedback what their next steps in learning are.

Teachers also use a variety of methods that include discussion, self and peer assessment, marking, and children’s independent work.

Summative assessments occur three times in an academic year.

At the end of KS1 and KS2 the SATs results are reported to the Local Authority and the DfE.

In Year 4, children complete the Multiplication Tables Check.
