MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

This week has been a wonderful celebration of books, stories and the joy of reading across our school. From special events to extra story times, it has been fantastic to see so many children sharing their love of books and discovering new stories together.

We started the week with our Book at Bedtime event on Monday evening, which was a huge success. Over 80 children joined us, arriving in cosy pyjamas and bringing their favourite books along to share. Thanks to Mr Brett for organising, teaching and office staff for staying late and for the PTAF crew for providing the all important hot chocolate and biscuits.

Throughout the week there has also been plenty of additional story time in classrooms on top of our usual reading offer. Teachers and staff have taken every opportunity to share stories, recommend favourite books and inspire children to explore new authors and characters. These moments help nurture a lifelong love of reading and remind us how powerful stories can be in sparking imagination and curiosity.

Today we finished the week with one of our favourite activities – Reading Buddies. Children from across both sites, came together to share books with each other. It was lovely to see older pupils supporting younger readers, sharing stories and modelling the enjoyment that reading can bring.

Alongside reading, all classes have been having a renewed focus on handwriting, spelling and punctuation this term. We know that when the technical basics of writing are secure, then creativity can flourish. I was very impressed with Thea's (Y2) writing which was inspired by her class text Paddington.

We have also been celebrating fantastic attendance this week. On Wednesday we achieved an impressive 98.5%. Good attendance is essential for children’s progress, confidence and friendships. Every day in school matters, and even small improvements can make a big difference over time. Thank you for your continued support in helping your children attend school regularly and punctually. Together we can ensure every child makes the most of every learning opportunity.

Finally, thanks to all parents for helping us to keep children safe at drop up and pick up. We have particularly noticed the impact of the new signs reminding families that Elmgrove Park is actually a PRIVATE road and must not be used for parking or turning.  Thank you for your help with this.

WORLD BOOK DAY CELEBRATIONS

We have had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day week! On Monday, we began with Book At Bedtime, which was a lot of wholesome fun. It was great to get children of different ages together. They all had a lovely time listening to stories and drinking hot chocolate. On World Book Day itself, the school was filled with an amazing array of costumes, creative characters, and a lot of excitement around reading. On Friday, we had reading buddies and our prize draw for the sponsored read. It has been non-stop reading goodness.

Next week, we’ll be sharing more photos from the day, including the brilliant outfits, today’s reading buddies, and other book‑themed activities from the past few days—so keep your eyes peeled!

IS MY CHILD READY FOR A PHONE?

We know that deciding when your child should be able to access a mobile phone is a big and complex decision. There are lots of things to think about and you might well be considering questions such as these:

Is my child ready for a phone?

How do I keep my child safe?

What’s the right approach for our family?

Are children and phones a good mix?

The NSPCC advise that every child is different, and the decision about when to introduce a phone is down to the parents or carers – and should be based on your child’s individual needs, maturity, and circumstances. They have produced a guide to help parents and carers weigh the pros and cons, understand signs of readiness, and set up healthy habits from the start.

If you have any questions about this or any other aspect of safeguarding please speak to any member of the school safeguarding team (Mr Insall, Ms Julie Smith, Mrs Welsford, Miss Dunne, Ms Emmeline Smith) any time.

More exciting information coming.....

📚JOIN IN WITH EAGLES' BOOK CORNER 📚

This term, Eagles have eagerly begun reading The Land of Roar by Jenny McLachlan — an exciting adventure set in an imaginary world filled with everything the twins love (dragons, witches, mermaids and ninja wizards) and everything they fear.

The story follows Arthur and Rose, whose Grandad mysteriously disappears into a folding bed. Has he simply vanished… or is the Land of Roar real after all?

This gripping book has sparked brilliant discussions about imagination, sibling relationships, and courage. It has whisked us into a world of adventure and left us eager to discover what happens next.

Y6 GIRLS FOOTBALL

The girls football ball has expanded!

Inspired by the original crew, a new batch of keen footballers came to join the team.

Essentially, they all got game play and developed their communication and team playing skills. It was a hard slog but in the final match they kept a clean sheet. Both keepers worked relentlessly. Plenty on smiles and aching legs after the evening was through. Well done ladies, it is wonderful to see more of you wanting to get on the pitch.

SCHOOL JUMPERS & BADGES

Our new (optional) school jumpers are available to order via the school shop on Arbor. We are also selling iron-on embroidered badges that can be attached to a plain green sweatshirt and/or white polo/T shirt. We would like to thank the school council for their input in deciding colour and for advocating for a T shirt option.

We know that our school community has a wide range of views about school clothing. Some families would appreciate a consistent school item to help children feel part of a team, while others value the freedom and individuality that comes with not having a uniform.

A school jumper can help promote the following:

  • Equality: Reduces visible differences between pupils, helping prevent peer pressure based on clothing.
  • Sense of belonging: Creates a shared identity and promotes school pride.
  • Focus on learning: Minimises distractions from fashion trends and peer pressure.
  • Safety: Makes it easier to identify pupils on trips or in public spaces, especially at sports events
  • Cost: Can be cheaper for families compared to buying multiple outfits for school.
  • Time-saving: Simplifies morning routines for parents and children.

You can find the school shop under the "Quick Actions" section on Arbor. Once you place your order, it will be delivered straight to your child's class, so that they can bring it home with them.

If your child receives pupil premium funding, you can order one school jumper free of charge through the school shop.

Not sure what size to order?

Jumpers are also available to try on for size at both school offices before you order.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Please note, due to popular demand - stock is running low but don't worry - more is on the way!
