We enjoyed a fantastic trip to Weston-super-Mare! The children took part in a platform safety workshop before travelling by train, and then had a wonderful day exploring and enjoying the beach together.

In Art, we have been creating rainforest mood boards, using the patterns, shapes and colours of the rainforest as inspiration for our designs.

Thanks to the PTA, we have been making great use of our Chromebooks. The children have been busy creating their own animations using 2Animate, showing fantastic creativity and enthusiasm.

In PE, we have been learning how to play dodgeball—a firm class favourite! The children have been developing their skills in dodging, ducking, throwing and catching, as well as learning and applying the rules of the game.

Starlings are currently reading the Chronicals od Narnia- The Magician's Nephew. We have been gripped as the children travel to different worlds using rings. We have just got to the part where the children have walked into a huge room with lots of different waxworks.

We have now completed the latest updates to our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) policy, in line with the Government’s recent RSHE guidance. This guidance becomes statutory from September 2026. The revised version is attached for your information.

We are delighted to announce that sports day for Reception and Year 1 will take place in the morning of Wednesday 8th July. More details to follow soon!

 

We are delighted to announce our upcoming Sports Day events, which will be held at Shine Sports Ground, Lime Trees Road, Bristol, BS6 7XW.

Event Dates

• Year 5 and Year 6: Monday 29th June 2026
• Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4: Wednesday 1st July 2026

All children will travel to and from the venue by coach. They will register at school beforehand.

Timings

The event will run from 9:45am – 12:00pm. 

Year 2 - Will be experience lunch time at the Cotham Site after Sports Day, and then return to class for the rest of the afternoon for normal collection.

 

What Children Will Need

Please ensure your child:

• Wears suitable sportswear and trainers.
• Brings a sun hat.
• Applies sun cream before coming to school.
• Brings a refillable water bottle.
• Brings a healthy snack.

Parents and Carers

Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend and support the children. Please make your own way to the sports ground. Should there be time, a parent race will take place so trainers at the ready!

To ensure the smooth running of the event:

• Parents and carers must remain behind the designated respect Line.
• Children will stay with their classes throughout the event.

Weather

Should the weather not be on our side, we will contact families in advance to inform you whether the event will go ahead or need to be cancelled.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled morning of sport, teamwork and friendly competition. Fingers crossed for a cool, sunshine-filled day!

 

Please head over to Arbor to give consent for your child to attend the Sporting event at the Shine Grounds by Thursday 25th June.

 

Following an incident involving a teenager being knocked over on the zebra crossing on Cotham Brow yesterday and several similar incidents in the area recently, we need your immediate help to keep our pupils and families safe.

There has been multiple near-misses at zebra crossings on this junction and others in the surrounding streets, where vehicles have failed to stop for children and adults waiting to cross.

If walking:

• Stop at the kerb and wait for ALL traffic to stop before crossing
• Make eye contact with drivers
• Hold children's hands at all times
• Never cross between parked cars

Please remind your child to:

• Stop at the kerb and look both ways
• Wait for cars to stop completely
• Never assume a car will stop

If you witness dangerous driving near school, note the vehicle registration and time, then report it to the police (101).

We have some exciting news to share!

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful PTAF, this week we launched a Summer Reading Challenge to give independent reading a real boost as we approach the end of the school year.

The idea is simple and very similar to our sponsored read. Each time your child reads three or more times in a week, they will earn one raffle ticket. These tickets will be entered into a prize draw, and at the end of term we will celebrate with a special assembly where names are drawn and book prizes or book tokens are awarded to our lucky winners. There will be prizes for each year group!

How can you help?
- Encourage your child to read at least three times each week (this could be independently or with you).
- Ensure your child brings in their book bag and reading record to be checked by their teacher
- Help them stay motivated by talking about what they are reading and celebrating their efforts.

We are hoping this will create a real buzz around reading across the school and keep children inspired right through to the summer holidays!

As we approach the summer break, we wanted to share our term dates for the remainder of this academic year and remind you of the policy on term-time absences and attendance.

 Term Dates for 2026

Term 6: 1st June 2026 to 22nd July 2026

 

INSET Days (school closed to pupils):

Friday 3rd July 2026
Wednesday 22nd July 2026

 

Term-Time Absence Policy

Only exceptional circumstances warrant an authorised leave of absence during term time. A holiday or other absence for leisure or recreation does not constitute an exceptional circumstance and will be recorded as unauthorised.

Family holidays should be taken during school holiday periods.

If you believe you have exceptional circumstances, please contact the school office as early as possible.

 

To Request Leave of Absence:

• Complete a Leave of Absence Request form (paper copies also available from the school office)
• Submit at least four weeks in advance where possible
• Please note: Leave cannot be approved retrospectively

Penalty Notices

Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly. Unauthorised absence can result in penalty notice fines.

 

Fines may be issued for:

• 5 days of unauthorised absence (whether consecutive or cumulative over a 10-week period)
• 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in any 10-week period (Each school day has 2 sessions: morning and afternoon)
• Please note: Arriving after 9:30am is recorded as an unauthorised session and counts towards this threshold

 

Penalty Notice Amounts

First offence:

• £80 per parent, per child (if paid within 21 days)
• £160 per parent, per child (if paid within 28 days)

Second offence (within a 3-year period):

• £160 per parent, per child (no reduction available)

Third or further offences:

• Referral for prosecution
• Fines of up to £2,500 per parent, per child

Fines are issued to each parent for each child. For example, if two siblings are absent, each parent will receive two separate fines.
