World Book Day Week
We are celebrating World Book Day next week with a whole week of exciting events based around books and storytelling, with children mixing up classes to have a fun week immersed in books.
This year, the charity is inviting everyone to ‘Read Your Way’, to give children and young people the opportunity to discover reading on their own terms.
‘Read Your Way’ encourages everyone to let go of reading pressures and expectations, and lets children find fun in reading. For more information, ideas and activities, please visit - https://www.worldbookday.com/families/
In preparation for next week, we will be handing out a £1 book token to every child this Friday, which can be swapped for a free World Book Day book.
There are 15 new books to choose from, all available until Sunday 23rd March from participating retailers. To find your nearest retailer, please click here.

World Book Day Launch Day and Assembly
Book at Bedtime
It’s back! The legendary Cotham Gardens Book at Bedtime event. This will take place at Elmgrove from 6-6.45pm and is open to ALL year groups. Come and snuggle up in front of the roaring log fire with PJs, teddy, hot chocolate and biscuits and listen to some bedtime stories read expertly by our teachers.
Advance booking ESSENTIAL via Arbor and this will be a first come first serve basis.
The event is free but a voluntary cash donation towards refreshments is welcome.
Tuesday 4th March
Reading Buddies
The Elmgrove children (Reception-Year 2) will be coming up to the Cotham Grove site on Tuesday afternoon to buddy up with the older children from Years 3-6.
Pairing older and younger children offers numerous benefits, including improved reading skills for younger children through modeling from older peers, boosted confidence and leadership skills for older children, fostering a positive attitude towards reading for both age groups, and building social connections across different year groups.
Wednesday 5th March
All Poems Aloud - World Book Day Book
All children will all receive a copy of ‘All Poems Aloud’ by Joseph Ceolho, as a gift from the school. The children will be using this book in a special creative activity on Thursday, before bringing home.
Thursday 6th March
Dressing Up and Sharing Our Favourite Books
We would like to encourage children to dress up as their favourite character or book title.
As usual, we encourage everyone to get creative in making /borrowing / sharing (but ideally not buying) costumes to celebrate our whole school's love of stories, reading and books.
There are also lots of great low-cost ideas that can be adapted for nearly every character on the World Book Day dressing up page.
If your child is not one for dressing, it would be great to see them bringing in their favourite book to celebrate their own love of reading.
Please bring in a charity donation of £1 for Book Aid International or donate online here.
Friday 7th March
Sponsored Read Certificates Assembly
Don’t forget to hand in your Sponsored Read forms. Everyone who participates will get a certificate AND be entered into a prize draw. One winner from each year group will be announced in the Sponsored Read Certificate Assembly and receive a specially selected book.
Happy Reading!
