Welcome back to a new term, we hope you had a lovely break!
This term for our topic we will be learning about Fairtrade. This is a fantastic topic and over the next few weeks the children will be conducting their own market research and from this creating their own new healthy snack.
Just before Easter as part of our Religious Education curriculum we will be visiting Redland Green Parish Church. This is a fantastic trip where the children learn all about the Easter story in an engaging and interactive way. If you would like to come along and help out on the trip we would greatly appreciate it. Please let one of the year 4 teachers know if you would like to help out with this fantastic trip.
Home learning in Year 4 consists of reading, spellings, maths and topic.
Please can home learning books and reading records be brought into school every Thursday for the teachers, so they can have a look through them. Thank you.
Children should aim to read at home for at least 10 minutes every day. For suggested reading in Year 4, see the following link: https://schoolreadinglist.co.uk/reading-lists-for-ks2-school-pupils/suggested-reading-list-for-year-4-pupils-ks2-age-8-9/
Spellings will be sent home every Friday to be tested in class the following Friday. The first test will not be until the second week back. Look at the bottom of this page to find this week's spelling list.
MyMaths homework will be set online every Friday to be completed by the following Friday. Letters will be going home near the beginning of term with details of how to access MyMaths online with passwords. Please speak to the class teacher if there are any problems accessing homework online.
At the start of each term, children will be given a bank of home learning options to complete each week. Homework should be handed in each Wednesday. Each piece will be marked from 1-3 (3 being the highest).
In the first week, children will just be asked to cover their home learning books.
Literacy and Numeracy
This term we will be exploring the theme of recycling and looking after and caring for our planet and we have a fantastically illustrated story to go alongside this. I would love to tell you more, but I need to leave the story as a mystery and a surprise for the children.
This term we are concentrating on decimal numbers and place value.
Throughout our numeracy learning we will use our problem solving skills to apply our knowledge to a variety of contexts including real life problems.
At the end of year 4 children will be assessed on times table facts up to the 12 x table. Any support that you can give your children at home with this would be wonderful.
We are looking for parent helpers to come in to read with children across the Year 4 classes. If you might be able to spare an hour or two each week, please let you child's teacher know.

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit (white t-shirt or polo shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings, trainers or pumps).
A little note from Mrs Arbrey about 4A -
Wanted to let you know that I work a 4 day week, so I am not in school on a Monday. The school timetable works on a 2 weekly basis, so during week 2, I am out of class on Tuesday AM and all day Thursday.
